Every so often in sports there comes along an athlete whose talent far surpasses that of any of his peers.
Mickey Mantle was that way for the Yankees in the ’50s. He was born to play center field and had a supreme blend of power and speed that has been unmatched by any player in history.
Same with his in-state rival, Willie Mays, who played the same position for the same time with the Giants.
Bo Jackson was that way for the NFL’s L.A. Raiders in the mid-1980s. As a running back, experts swear Bo could have rushed for 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns had he been surrounded by a solid quarterback and offensive line.

With Kevin Garnett still in street clothes and Ray Allen shockingly exiting the game with his sixth foul, Game Five and the fate of the Boston Celtics championship defense fell to one player. Luckily for Boston fans, that player was Paul Pierce. After two seasons of having ample help from his All-Star teammates, Pierce was [...]

Speaking of being clutch, how unclutch is Stephon Marbury, the man formerly known as “Starbury”. I’m not sure what his new nickname should be after his performance at the end of the 4th quarter on Tuesday.
I’ll admit that I was a supporter of his signing earlier this year because I thought he would be more of a team player on a veteran Celtic’s team. Well I was right, because he has changed into an unselfish player. However, I didn’t realize that it would make him change for the worse.

At any level of competition, basketball is all about trust. How well do you trust yourself, your teammates, your system? Despite having superior talent, the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t trust their offense, while the Utah Jazz trusted their bench and their two main superstars. That difference in belief was the reason behind Utah’s 88-86 game three victory over Los Angeles.

Kobe Bryant went 5-24 from the field today as the Lakers’ blew a 13 point lead to the Jazz and showed me why they aren’t a lock to win the title. There is no doubt that the Lakers’ have the most athletically gifted team in the league. However, athletic ability can only take a team so far. They are most likely still going to beat the Jazz this round, but all the signs are pointing to a possible Lakers’ choke.

In honor of Elton Brand playing a hand in destroying two franchises and contributing nothing to a third this season, here are five of the biggest backstabs in recent NBA history. Every year, guys enter early with the belief that they can get drafted in the first round. That, or their four years are up and they really don’t have a choice.
Regardless, there always seems to be at least a handful of guys that either slip to the second round, or don’t get drafted at all, that truly have the talent to make it at the next level.
With GMs putting to much stock in, well, stock, it’s difficult to truly gauge a player’s future performance. Enough about potential. Here are 10 guys that, when everything is on the line, are safe bets to be solid players at the next level. Lateral quickness, schmatteral schmickness, I say.

Everybody knows who the greatest athletes in the world are. Guys like LeBron James. Alexander Ovechkin. Albert Pujols. Michael Phelps. And many more.
These are the athletes who dominate their respective sports to the point of absurdity. They win Most Valuable Player trophies, championships, and gold medals. They set records and make millions of dollars.
So I found it somewhat shocking when I heard about a man doing some of the most unbelievable acts of physical fitness in the history of mankind, and I didn’t even know his name.
Meet Dean Karnazes, the world’s greatest running machine since…well…ever.

On Friday, April 18, Mets outfielder Gary Sheffield turned on a 3-2 pitch from Braves pitcher Mitch Stetter and sent it 385 feet over the left field fence for his 500th home run. The hit tied the game for the Mets in the seventh inning and ultimately proved to be the margin of victory in [...]
